BHS girls team to visit Fairview Wednesday

GREENWOOD VILLAGE – Brighton’s girls basketball team earned a spot in the state 5A girls basketball playoffs. The pairings were released Sunday afternoon at the Doubletree Hotel.

BHS will take its 10-13 record into the first-round match at Fairview, the No. 5 seed (14-9) at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 22.

"We were not sure if we would get into the postseason this year," BHS coach Traci Mescher said. "We are very excited that we did make it. We've been playing good basketball the last couple of weeks of the season. Things were starting to click within the team."

Brielle Brady leads the Bulldogs’ offense, averaging 10 points per game. Cassie Kaiser averages almost six rebounds per game.

Sarah Kaufman leads the Knights in scoring at 8.7 points per game. Sonia Ghosh and Hannah Hyde are close behind at 8.5 points per contest. Hyde is the top rebounder for Fairview at six rebounds per game.

"The only thing we know about Fairview is they have some tall players and many different players who can score," Mescher said. "We are going to try and shut down their inside game and we are going to try and run the floor on offensive and get some quick baskets."

The winner draws a road game against Ralston Valley Saturday.
