DENVER -- Brighton High School drew a 16th seed in the state 5A playoffs and will host Cherry Creek in the opening round. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., Friday.
BHS is 8-1 and won the Eastern Metro Conference title. Cherry Creek was 5-4 and wound up third in the Centennial League. The winner gets either ThunderRidge or Westminster in the second round.
The Bulldogs warmed up for the playoffs with a 49-0 rout against Lincoln High School Friday afternoon at Denver Public Schools Stadium.
Nicholas Garcia scored three touchdowns, and quarterback Ethan Trujillo for 190 yards and four TDs.
Trujillo completed 13 of 18 passes for 190 yards. Garcia, Nate Morales, Michael Goward and Collin Tabor were on the receiving end of Trujillo's TD tosses, Trujillo also ran for a score.
BHS scored on its first seven possessions and only punted once.
"We played really well," Garcia said. "We played like league champs. We were expected to win. We played as a team. We got younger kids in for some reps to get them ready for next year."
Garcia finished with a team-high 62 yards rushing on 10 carries. Tabor caught four passes for 55 yards, and Morales finished with three receptions for 69 yards.
