On May 12, the Brighton Fire Rescue District held its Annual Service Awards Banquet, an opportunity for district members to be recognized for achievements as well as to recognize the achievements of their co-workers over the past year.

The following awards were given to members of the fire district:

Certificate of Appreciation: Brian Olivas for his dedication to the training of his crew. Gerard Lutz, John Blunt, John Stevens, Chris Hove, Dan Grein, Matt Joslin, Rich Towndrow, Victor Calvo, Steve Choe and Phil Beehler for their involvement in the District Color Guard.

Scott Griffith for his commitment as team leader for the ice rescue group. Chris Woolley for his commitment to obtaining a grant to form a wildland fire team for the District.

Company Citation:Tony Spresser, Bill Bennett, and Jeremy Osgood received the company citation for their meritorious service, collectively as a company during a call on April 10, 2012 for a woman in labor, and successfully helped her deliver a healthy baby.

Distinguished Service Award: Chris Edwards for his involvement to the hazardous materials team. Tyler Everitt for his increasingly positive reputation with the community for his position as the Inspector. Rand Sheldon for his continuing efforts in maintaining our dispatching, mapping and reporting technology.

Volunteer Firefighter of the Year: Victor Calvo was honored as the volunteer of the year for 2011. Victor has continually put forth and effort in the highest degree. He made a huge impact on the success of the presentations in the schools during the month of October 2011 with his bilingual abilities. He volunteered a great deal of time to join in the presentations.

Career Firefighter of the Year: Amy Reinhardt has been extremely active over the last few years in organizing and participating in community events.  Her enthusiasm for projects was contagious. This was a bittersweet award, as Amy has recently accepted a position with a neighboring fire department.

Several service awards were given to members who have completed more than five years of service with the district, both volunteer and career.  Five-year service awards were given to John Johnson, Matthew Joslin, Michael Medina, Mario Molinaro, Aaron Schissler, and Doug Tweedy. Ten-year service awards were given to Dawn Blunt, Mark Brasel, Brycen Garrison, Scott Griffith, Chris Hove, Mike Nekvasil, and Tony Spresser.  One fifteen year award was given to Rand Sheldon.
