BRIGHTON — The School District 27J Board of Education renewed Eagle Ridge Academy’s Charter for another four years. The board unanimously approved the contract in a 5-0 vote during its April 22 board meeting.

The school board previously approved the academy’s charter renewal on Jan. 22, which allowed district officials to enter into negotiations with academy staff. Those contract negotiations were completed on April 1 and results were forwarded for the district’s board members to review on April 3.

Eagle Ridge Academy’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the contract renewal during its April 9 meeting. The contract adopted on April 22 is effective July 1 and expires on June 30, 2018.

Principal and Head of School Ben Ploeger said the excitement of the new contract is that its language “gives ERA the autonomy to operate a strong college preparatory high school, while holding us accountable for academic and operational results.”

“Simply put, it allows us to teach and learn at high levels, while ensuring that we operate as good stewards of our students, our community and our tax dollars,” he said.

Ploeger added the approval successfully concludes the academy’s charter renew process and empowers our continued operation in the years ahead.

“Every day we are humbled and honored by the opportunity to educate our students and serve our community and we are eager to enrich and enhance our strong academic progress,” he said.

Board Members Greg Piotraschke and Rick Doucet were excused from the meeting and unable to cast their vote.
