BRIGHTON — The message is quite simple when it comes to Brighton School District 27J fees, athletic and otherwise.
Pay the fees or don’t count on playing interscholastic sports or participating in other extracurricular activities.
“I’d rather not throw any figures out there,” 27J spokesman Kevin Denke said. “But it is a significant amount.”
The district changed its policies concerning student fees this year. The major change is students who don’t pay fines or fees for the present school year won’t be allowed to participate in athletics or extracurriculars.
Denke said the goal was to “recoup the large amount of athletic and other participation fees.”
In the event that fees aren’t paid in full, the district can not only restrict or prohibit participation in programs (including graduation), it can withhold transcripts for students who want to transfer out of the district.
Also, district policy allows it to use a collection agency.
27J offers a web site for those who want to pay their fees online. The link is http://brighton27j.revtrak.net/tek9.asp.
