Roy and his brother Lee attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, where they shared books, classes and housing and then farmed in the summer. While in college, Roy joined the Haylofters Square Dance club, where he met Beverly Callihan. They married in 1952. Roy received his doctoral degree in veterinary medicine in 1959. They moved to California for a year, then returned to Northglenn where, in 1960, Roy
established the Northglenn Veterinary Clinic, the first business in Northglenn. He worked in the clinic until a stroke in 1987 caused him to sell the business.
Dr. Carlson served as the first president of the Adams County Historical Society Board of Trustees. His goals were action and accomplishment. Roy and Beverly devoted their lives to help ACHS grow and prosper.
