BRIGHTON — The Brighton Economic Development Corp. announced Feb. 4 that FMC Technologies Inc. will build a sales and service facility at 1571 County Road 27, joining Vestas in Brighton’s Energy Employment Corridor in Weld County.
The Houston-based business will be building a 50,000-square-foot facility on 20 acres of land focused on well completion, fluid control and surface wellheads. EDC Director Robert Smith said it’s a $12-million project, with 66 employees to initially staff the facility and 50 more jobs to be added over the next five years.
“We’ve been working with the company since the tail end of 2012, so we’re excited that this is coming forward,” Smith told council during its Feb. 4 meeting. “And just so you know, we’re very excited about the fact that they would like to open before the end of the year and its a very ambitious time schedule.”
In order to meet that ambitious time schedule, Smith said the company needs to get its plans in while allowing enough time for construction. Assistant City Manager for Development Marv Falconburg said he would expect the company’s final plat and development agreement to come before council within the next few months.
EDC Chairman James Vigesaa said good-paying jobs with benefits, solid capital investment are the kinds of projects the EDC loves to bring into the city.
“This project will pay dividends for Brighton for years to come,” he said.
Last October, the Colorado Economic Development Commission approved the company’s application for $532,440 in performance-based Job Growth Incentive Tax Credits over a 60-month period. The state’s JGITC program provides state income tax credits to businesses undertaking job creation projects in the state and stipulates that all jobs created must be maintained for at least one year after the positions are hired.
FMC Technologies Property Development Manager John Diess said the company is pleased to be locating its latest facility in Brighton.
“This location is ideally suited to help us meet the growing needs of our customers in the area. The new facility will provide us with a single location that allows three of businesses to work together more closely to ensure customer success,” he said.
