BRIGHTON — City Council considered a resolution to fund the installation of new lighting at the Strong Street parking lot during its April 1 meeting, after press deadline.
If approved, the city would allocate $69,941 from its undergrounding funds provided by United Power.
During council’s March 25 study session, Streets and Fleet Director Joe Smith told council about upgrades that are being made to the Strong Street parking lot in downtown, which will require the city to relocate its light poles.
“What we found is that we could improve the traffic flow and increase the number of parking spaces in strong street’s lot if we turn the parking around,” Smith said, adding that the rows currently go east to west.
Changing the direction of the parking spaces creates a better flow of traffic but will require four new LED lights to be installed. Smith said the lights will be spread out, providing better lighting.
Smith said the city along with the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority, are doing the project to make people feel safer using it to park in.
