Griff Murray

    Griff Murray, 74 of Brighton, passed away June 29, 2012. He was born Dec. 26, 1937, in Denver to Vinton S. Murray and Ruthora V. Griffith. He graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1956 and later married Jo Ditolla in Denver on Aug. 26, 1961.


    Griff lived in Brighton for the last 48 years, where he owned and operated Murray Auto Parts from 1962 to 1985. He then drove a school bus for Brighton 27J Schools from 1985 to 2000. He also volunteered for the Greater Brighton Volunteer Fire Department from 1969 to 1990.
    In 1984, the Jaycees of Brighton awarded him the Brighton Distinguished Service Award. Griff was a member of the Brighton Fire Prevention Bureau and received a certificate for outstanding service for 1985-86. He was a Brighton Fire Command Officer for 14 years and then served as the Fire Chief from 1982 to 1984, during which time he was involved with the dedication of Station 1 in 1983.
    Griff served as the Secretary of the Fire Board from 1984-1987 and was honored as Fire Fighter of the Year in 1990.
    While driving school buses for School District 27J he received the Hometown Hero Award from Channel 4 News in 1998.
    Griff is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jo, of Brighton; daughters, Lori (Tom) Feola of Brighton and Vicki (John) Dudasch of Castle Rock; and two grandchildren, Eric and Jill Feola.
    He was preceded in death by both of his parents; brother, Fred, and his loving granddaughter, Avery, just a few days before himself.
    A memorial service was Friday, July 6, at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton, which handled the arrangements.
