BRIGHTON -- The Brighton School District board of education will be down a member for a while.

The board approved a motion tonight to accept the resignation of Virginia Guzman. Guzman is moving out of director District 6, which she currently represents.

She served on School District 27J’s board of education once before. She rejoined the board in June 2011 because of the resignation of former director Carolyn Horstman, who resigned due to work and family obligations.

Guzman was elected to a full four-year term in November.

The board is expected to declare a vacancy at its Oct. 9 meeting, according to district spokesman Kevin Denke. That begins a 60-day window in which the board will have to appoint a replacement. Denke said the appointed individual would serve on the board until the district’s next scheduled biennial election (November 2013). At that time, the person has the option to seek election to the board.
