Homespun Concert

Date:
02/19/2012 - 4:00pm

The sun’s rays are getting stronger, hours of daylight longer and spring is soon to arrive.
The creative talents of BrightonMusic Orchestra members and friends are ready to burst forth with original compositions in the orchestra’s free Homespun Concert at 4 p.m., Feb. 19, at the First Presbyterian Church, 510 S. 27th Ave.
Prior to the concert, at 3 p.m., there will be an arts and crafts show and a homemade bake sale.  Anyone who would like to display their arts or crafts creations should contact Geoffrey Lehr at 303 241-1611.
The musical program will feature two world premieres by conductor and violist Geoffrey --- the descriptive and emotive “Love’s Gone to War,” and the whimsical “Adventures of the Mind,” with subtitles such as “King of the Cardboard Castle” and “Refrigerator Box Spaceship.”
Conductor Kat McCusker’s stirring “Highland Festival” for bagpipe soloist is a repeat favorite from a previous Homespun concert.  Louis Jendras (violin section) has written “Ludwig’s Little Rag,” a humorous piece that might have been written by Beethoven if he had lived in the Ragtime era.  Three shorter pieces, all arrangements of old familiar tunes, and two songs, “The House of Love” and “You,” by Brighton resident Mark Humbert, fill out the program.
