A previously cold sexual assault case from 1992 is being brought back to life,  after a man was arrested recently for allegedly stabbing and sexually assaulting a woman in her home.

Dionicio Ramos-Ascencio was arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and attempted first-degree murder in connection with a 1992 case. District Attorney Dave Young said Monday, May 15. Ramos-Ascencio also was charged with assault, burglary, and two counts of a crime of violence in the attack on a woman in Commerce City on July 26, 1992.

According to the original court documents the suspect illegally entered a home near 60th Avenue and Quebec Street and stabbed and sexually assaulted a female victim. The suspect was reported to have cut himself during the incident and may have been riding a bicycle.

Investigators arrested Ramos-Ascencio after DNA collected in a 2017 Denver felony case matched with DNA collected in the 1992 Commerce City case.

Ramos-Ascencio was informed of the charges Friday, May 12, in Adams County District Court. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
