BRIGHTON — Michael Brashear, 39, was diagnosed with acute leukemia on May 17. He was hospitalized for a month and is set to undergo chemotherapy treatments for at least six months.

He’s the father of three children, ages 13, 11 and 9. His wife, Laura, has been studying online to get her master’s degree, leaving Mike the sole breadwinner of the family. He boards, trains horses and gives clinics. Due to his illness, he is unable to work for at least six months and perhaps longer.

A fundraiser is set for 5 to 11 p.m. July 18 at the Knights of Columbus Hall to help the family with medical and living expenses. The benefit will consist of a spaghetti dinner, dance and silent auction. Organizers are asking for donationf for the silent auction and/or dinner.
