BRIGHTON -- Greater Brighton Fire Rescue District officials said a mouse's nest inside an electrical switch box caused Monday night's barn fire near 150th Avenue and Brighton Road.
Chief Mark Bodane said the nest caused the box to short out, which led to the fire that destroyed up to a half-dozen out buildings. Two people required on-scene treatment for smoke inhalation. Neither was taken to a hospital.
Resident Mike Trujillo, who lives west of Brighton, sent the attached video.
"We stopped it at the house," Bodane said.
Firefighters fought a second fire Monday night as well. It was at the Jehovah's Witness Church near 19th Avenue and Bridge Street. Bodane said construction crews who were doing pipe work earlier in the day may be to blame for that fire.
"It was confined to an exterior wall," Bodane said.
