Netting a cleaner Barr Lake

-A A +A

A joint task force of staff and volunteers for Barr Lake State Park, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District use nets to capture giant Carp from Barr Lake recently. The non-native species of fish are known to contribute to pollution in local water ways. They feed by sucking food from the bottom of lakes and have been known to dig as deep as one foot below the lake bottom stirring up mud and chemicals. With the water levels of the lake at seasonal low levels, the goal of the project was to capture upwards of 1,000 fish weighing more than two tons.
