BRIGHTON — Inglenook at Brighton has a new duo leading the way at the assisted living facility.

Executive Director Dennis Veen and Marketing Director Sue Herzog are taking over because Patrick and Mary Jo Wright decided to retire after 13 years at Inglenook.

Both directors have extensive experience in senior living facilities: Veen with 13 years of experience and Herzog with 25 years of experience in the industry.

Veen, who also has experience in human resources, said he started his career in marketing but has worked in many senior living communities in the Denver area. He served as executive director at his last job and said the community holds Inglenook in high esteem, which made him apply.

“The reason I came here, I think was because of the reputation of the community, that’s what enticed me about it,” he said. “And I like the philosophy of the ownership of the community.”

Herzog has lived in Brighton for 13 years and she’s excited to be working in her “backyard” instead of commuting into Denver. Herzog has worked in nursing homes in the past and said the biggest difference for her is the clientele and that residents are “pretty independent” and like keep her on her toes.

In addition to getting acclimated with the seniors, staff and the community, Veen and Herzog are working on a memory care program that will be coming soon. A portion of the building is going to be converted into 12 rooms. Seniors who qualify will interact with staff who are specially trained to interact with seniors who have memory impairment.

“I’m really looking forward to the memory unit, I think it’s going to be a good asset to the community because there isn’t anything here (like that),” Herzog said.

Veen is also excited for the new memory care program and hopes to maintain Inglenook’s reputation moving forward.

“I think this place has had such a great reputation over the years and that’s something we want to continue and still be involved in the community,” Veen said.

Veen and Herzog would like to invite members of the community to visit Inglenook. They’re planning to hold an open house in the near future.
