Brighton School District 27J hasn't implemented any extra security measures at its schools in the wake of a school shooting in Nevada this morning.
Two people died and two others were injured during the incident at a middle school near Reno, in northern Nevada. National media are reporting that a student fired one shot at a teacher. It happened just as the school day was beginning.
"While we encourage our staff, students and parents to be vigilant about school security on a daily basis, we have not implemented any additional security measures at our schools in response to this event," 27J spokesman Kevin Denke said.
Brighton School District 27J will practice lockout practices during a drill at 9 a.m., Oct. 24. Schools use the word “lockout” when the threat is outside the building. Gov. John Hickenlooper proclaimed this week as Colorado
