BRIGHTON -- Brighton police and two K-9 units from the Adams Sheriff's Office arrested an alleged burglar near First Avenue and South Bush Street after a short foot pursuit on U.S. Highway 85.

The suspect, who was not identified late Monday night, needed medical attention from the Brighton fire Rescue District and a Platte Valley ambulance. The initial report was that one of the K-9s may have bitten the suspect during the arrest.

The incident started around 10:45 p.m. Police said a homeowner in the 200 block of North Ash Avenue may have surprised someone in his house. The suspect, who was described as a Spanish-American male wearing jeans, led officers on a brief chase down U.S. Highway 85 before turning down Bridge Street, heading through the RTD Park-n-Ride lot and winding up downtown.
