Prep soccer: BHS gets Pine Creek in opening round of state soccer tourney

AURORA -- Brighton High School faces Pine Creek High School in the opening round of the state 5A girls soccer tournament at 6:30 p.m., May 6, at Liberty High School, 8720 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs.

BHS goes into the game as the 30th seed and has a mark of 8-7. Ashley Contreras leads the Bulldogs' offense with 14 goals and six assists for 34 points. Payton Bonino is next with eight goals and 23 points. Goalkeeper Sara Day has a goals-against average of 2.71. Freshman Jesica Baker has 49 saves in her 14 game appearances.

Pine Creek (12-2-1) earned the third seed. Ally Watt leads the offense with 13 goals and 30 points. Madeline Alhamra has 10 goals and 24 points. Freshman goalkeeper Jade Odom has given up sseven goals in 12 games and compiled an .833 save percentage. Another freshman, Hailey Jordan, has a goals-against average of 1.71 in six games this season.

The winner gets either Grandview or Regis Jesuit high schools in the second-round match May 9.
