BRIGHTON — A new taqueria opened for business in southwestern Brighton Sept. 4. Taqueria Spicy Tacos, 965 Platte River Blvd, Unit A, is serving up authentic Mexican fare at affordable prices.
“Our main concept is its going to be different types of shredded beef, chicken, carne asada, adobada,” owner Pablo Cerano said. “Those are the main meats if you go to, say, Juarez or Mexico City, that’s what you will find.”
As he is originally from Mexico, Cerano said many of the restaurant’s offerings will come from family recipes but will be prepared by Chef Jesus Castro, who has eight years of experience working for Las Delicias. The chef will be adding his own touch to some of the traditional Mexican dishes found on the menu such as tamales, smothered burritos, fajitas and enchiladas, according to spokeswoman Lorrie Grove.
The restaurant will also be carrying out the Mexican tradition of serving menudo, birria and carnitas on the weekend, and each order will come with hand-made tortillas.
Cerano, who is also the property’s owner, decided to open the restaurant because there isn’t a lot for people on that side of town who work in the hotels and businesses.
“I felt it was just the right thing to do for the community in addition to serving all the people that work at the hotels. With four hotels here and nothing but hamburgers around the hotels, I thought, ‘Well a Mexican restaurant will do well here,’” he said.
In addition to being under new ownership, the restaurant — which was formerly the site of Los Comales and Spicy Tacos prior to that — has undergone a renovation. The restaurant has a Tex-Mex vibe that is inviting to families and will have a full bar once the license is approved by the liquor authority. Cerano says he would also like to make the restaurant available to professionals who would like to host business luncheons.
A grand opening ceremony is being planned for 3 to 9 p.m. Sept. 27 with a Chamber of Commerce-sponsored ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. and music performed by a mariachi band from 4 to 6 p.m. Families are welcome to bring their children to enjoy dinner and a variety of games for the kids. During the grand opening event, restauranteurs will be given 25 percent off the total bill.
Spicy Tacos serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and take out from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Spicy Tacos can be reached at 303-659-3550.
