Weed fire destroys barn

BRIGHTON -- Brighton and Thornton firefighters responded to the area of 13800 Quebec Street to handle a large weed fire that also destroyed a horse barn.
The fire was reported at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday. High winds, low humidity and warm temperatures contributed to the rapidly spreading flames that burned more than 50 acres in addition to the barn.
No horses were reported injured by the fire, but a boat stored in the barn was destroyed. The fire was in Brighton's jurisdiction.
