  • Blunck bids farewell at 27J board meeting

    BRIGHTON — Superintendent Rod Blunck bid his farewell to School District 27J’s board of education June 12. He commended board members for choosing to do a very difficult task with the highest of honor.
        “I can tell you that over the last six years I’ve always been honored by your support and equally humbled by your forgiveness,” he said.

  • Bargmann named to Municipal League conference panel

        A Brighton Youth Commissioner has been selected to speak on a panel at the Colorado Municipal League’s 90th annual conference June 21 in Breckenridge.
        Austin Bargmann, a sophomore at Eagle Ridge Academy, will take part in the session, “Beyond Beyonce: Engaging Tomorrow’s Leaders in Local Government Today.”

  • Lucero brothers advance in respective fields of work, study

         Joseph Lucero received his white coat May 5 from Creighton University Medical Center School of Dentistry, where he will graduate with the class of 2014.

  • Brighton 27J may go to voters again this November for mill levy

    BRIGHTON — School District 27J’s Board of Education will discuss a possible mill levy proposal for the upcoming November election, as well as other topics, during a board planning session Tuesday night, June 19.

    Chief Operating Officer Terry Lucero will lead an overview of the district’s growth and upcoming elections. The district is still in a window of opportunity where the board could choose to pursue a mill levy election for November, district spokesman Kevin Denke said.

  • Jumper named to spring dean’s list at SDSU

        Talon Perry Jumper, of Brighton, was named to the college of education and human sciences dean’s list for the spring 2012 semester at South Dakota State University.
        Students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester while completing a minimum of 12 credits for the Dean’s List honor.
     

  • Three local students earn FHSU semester honors

        Three local students were named Honor Scholars for the spring 2012 semester at Fort Hays State University in Kansas.
        Dorrine Hodges, a freshman from Lochbuie majoring in management, was named a College of Business and Leadership Honor Scholar.
        Megan Jachetta, a senior from Brighton majoring in elementary education, and Scott Russell, a freshman majoring in health and human performance, were also named Honor Scholars.
     

  • BHS class of 1957 reunion

        The Brighton High School Class of 1957 will celebrate its 55-year class reunion July 20 and 21.
        The group is attempting to locate the following people: Ernie Gallegos, Alvin Johnson, Rod Snydal, Lydia Sandoval Jacoline and Barbara Nichols Bellamy. If you have any information on these classmates, please contact Lucy Gremel Kraft at 303-659-0029.
     

  • Banister named to Wyoming spring honor roll

        Marcus R. Banister, of Brighton, was among the 85 Colorado students named to the University of Wyoming’s spring 2012 President’s Honor Roll
        The President’s Honor Roll consists of undergraduates taking a minimum of 12 credit hours who earned a 4.0 GPA for the semester.

  • Arneson honored as counselor of the month

        BRIGHTON — An Eagle Ridge Academy counselor has been honored as May Counselor of the Month by College Colorado.
        Jason Arneson, director of college readiness, was surprised with the award from College in Colorado Outreach Coordinator Liliana Diaz during presentation on May 30.

  • Brighton 27J board set for budget vote

        BRIGHTON — Brighton School District 27J is expecting an increase in its projected budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year. Chief Financial Officer Suzi DeYoung reviewed the budget’s highlights at a May 30 public hearing.
        With the state’s per-pupil funding expected to remain at $6,222.88, the district will see an overall increase of $3.6 million due to student enrollment increasing by an estimated 567 students.
