BRIGHTON — Unofficial results from the Colorado Department of Education’s Transitional Colorado Assessment Program show the number of School District 27J third-graders reading at a proficient or advanced level remained above the state average.
    About 74 percent of the district’s third-graders scored at a proficient or advanced level on this year’s test. Although the scores decreased 2 percent from the district’s record high scores last year, they remained 1 percent higher than the state average.

Linneya Ruybal, fifth-grader at Southeast Elementary School, was honored as the winner of the city’s 27th annual Brighton Arbor Day poster contest. Mayor Dick McLean presented her with a T-shirt and water bottle.

    Ruybal said she decided to draw her picture about a little park because she likes to spend time at the park and run, play and climb trees. She is the first student from Southeast Elementary School win the contest.

    BRIGHTON — School District 27J is rolling out a new option for high school students interested in earning their diploma through online education. The district has created a new public school — Brighton Online Learning for Tomorrow Academy — for the 2013-14 academic year and is currently enrolling students.
