  • RTD celebrates transfer of railroad property for North Metro Corridor

        THORNTON — The Regional Transportation District and Union Pacific Railroad  gathered to celebrate the transfer of railroad property that RTD purchased from UP for the north metro FasTracks segment. But not all of the participants were in a partying mood.

        At a ceremony Tuesday morning in Thornton at the site of the proposed Eastlake Station at 124th and Claude Court, RTD and UP were joined by local politicians and stakeholders whose communities could benefit from the project, if and when it comes to fruition.

  • Man dies in U.S. Highway 85 collision

        COMMERCE CITY – Commerce City police continue their investigation into a Nov. 23 accident that killed an unidentified man.

        It happened near 69th Avenue and U.S. Highway 85 about 10:15 p.m. Officers said the man was crossing Highway 85 from east to west when he was hit by a white Chevrolet pick-up truck.

        The driver told police he had the green light and that the pedestrian walked out in front of the truck. The victim’s name wasn’t released pending notification of relatives.

    ‘How can we help somebody that’s into meth?” a Prairie View High School student-athlete asked a panel of local and state leaders during a youth-led town hall-style meeting Monday at the Shopneck Boys & Girls Club in Brighton.

    Adams County Sheriff Douglas Darr, one of the panelists, responded to the question.

        I would like to thank the community of Brighton, the company of Bleeker and Vigesaa, GC, and Bank of Choice for the donations that have been made to the food drive in which Land Title Guarantee Co. is currently participating. Company wide, we have collected more than 60 barrels of food.

  • Time to avoid repeat of funding crisis errors

    With the legislative session rapidly approaching, there have been a lot of discussions revolving around ways to balance the state budget while still funding and protecting important state services.

        During the last session, Statehouse Republicans did everything we could to get Colorado’s economy back on track. Unfortunately, we are still seeing a slower economic recovery than we had hoped for which has led to some painful cuts in the state budget.

    Northeast Elementary School Principal Michael Clow said the members of his school’s Parent-Teacher Organization are so valuable, he keeps the phone numbers of the group’s co-presidents on speed dial on his cell phone.

        “They are thoughtful and insightful about our many shared projects, the direction of PTO and the future of the school,” Clow said. “I am fortunate to work with them.”
