James M. Chavez

    James M. Chavez, 66, passed away June 2, 2013. He was born Jan. 2, 1947. He is survived, inspired, glorified and honored through the lives of his children, Renee and Derek (Heather); grandchildren, Darios, Mark, Chelce, Devon, Jared, Jordan, Jaylyn, and Elijah; brother, Steven Chavez (Martine); and sister, Cindy Schawe (Mark).
    Graveside memorial held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area ‘A’.
    Tabor-Rice Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

 

Brighton Adventist Academy marks...

BRIGHTON — On May 22, Brighton Adventist Academy marked the completion of six years in its Spiritual Gifts Mentoring Program. Elementary teacher Shondra Cizek is passionate about the concept that each child has been born with special gifts, talents and abilities.
    Children need to understand the talents that may perhaps lie dormant in them, she says, because she knows that when they fulfill their purpose in life, they will experience bliss.

Flag Day in Brighton

Old Glory was folded and a new flag unfurled to celebrate Flag Day at Avamere Care Center (formerly Kindred), 2025 E. Egbert in Brighton. About 20 residents and staff gathered June 14 to observe the event.

Joe Golden,  of VFW Post 4444 in Commerce City, led the program in which the old faded and tattered flag was respectfully lowered and a new one proudly raised at Avamere’s West entrance.

Almost Home’s third annual...

BRIGHTON — Almost Home celebrated its 20th anniversary with its annual fundraiser, Spring Outof Homelessness May 10.
    The event at Heritage Todd Creek Golf Course featured a plated dinner, drinks, entertainment by the Flatirons Jazz Quintet, a Dutch Auctionand Live Auction and Sandi Bentley, a previous Almost Home client.

Volleyball clinic June 23

    Five Star Volleyball Club hosts a youth skills clinic from 1 to 4 p.m., June 23, as a fundraiser for the clubs 17 Black team that will participate in the Junior Olympics Championships in Dallas at the end of June. The clinic is at Bromley East Charter School, 756 Longspur Drive. Clinicians are members of the club coaching staff and the 17 Black team. Cost is $25. Denny Ray Romero

    Denny Ray Romero, 55, of Greeley, died June 6, 2013, at his home. He was born April 8, 1958, in Denver, to Ray and Isabel Romero.

Brightoners got a chance to get their German on last weekend, with the advent of the first annual Kafers and Krauts auto show on Sixth Street.

D-Day Remembered June 9

This year, the 10th annual tribute to our military veterans will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, by the Adams County Historical Society at the county fairgrounds.  The museum can be reached by driving on Highway 85, turning West at 124th for one mile.  
    Mary Kelly will join the Father’s Mustache Band. Displays at Hoffman Hall, Fire Station and Victorian House are offered. Refreshments will be served. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend this free indoor event.
