  • Soccer playoff pairings to be announced Sunday

    The draw for the state 5A soccer playoffs will be released Sunday afternoon.

    The top five teams from the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference qualify. Adams City, Prairie View and Brighton figure to get berths once the pairings are announced.

    The first-round games are May 9.

    BRIGHTON — Brighton’s Rodney Morales struggled in his complete-game, 10-strikeout win May 1 against Prairie View.

  • Fundraiser with a twist at BHS

    Brighton High School’s Cajun boil fundraiser (5:30 to 8 p.m., May 19, Brighton High School main gym) comes complete with Cajun food, refreshments and a silent auction.
        But instead of benefiting one or two of the school’s athletic programs, the proceeds will be spread out among all of the programs.

    WESTMINSTER — Two things worked in favor of Prairie View’s girls soccer team Thursday night.
        The ThunderHawks just beat a ferocious thunderstorm to beat the Wolves 7-0. And they may have solved a season-long problem of how to take advantage of scoring chances.

  • Morales pitches, bats BHS to come-from-behind win over Prairie View

    BRIGHTON -- Rodney Morales drove in the winning run with a one-out base hit to center Tuesday night to give Brighton a come-from-behind, 7-6 win against rival Prairie View on Brighton's field.

     

    Morales' line drive drove in pinch-hitter Matt Towers with the winning run and gave BHS the inside track to the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference crown. Towers started the inning with a base hit.

  • UPDATE: Miller earns PVHS' first state tennis berth

    HIGHLANDS RANCH -- Prairie View's Lindsay Miller will play in next week's state 5A tennis tournament at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver.

     

    Hannah Clack of Pine Creek beat Miller 6-1, 6-1 for the regional title. Miller's second-place finish got her into the state meet next week.

    It's the first time in the six-year history of the school that anyone from Prairie View qualified for the state tennis championships.

    Bree Backer qualified for the playback round Thursday morning at No. 3 singles. She lost her match in straight sets and placed fourth.

    Prairie View's No. 1 doubles team (Sydney Schafer and Amandine Coppens) also qualified for the playback round but lost their match Thursday morning in straight sets to place fourth.

     “I'm really proud of our girls this year,” PVHS coach Randall said before this week's regional tournament. “They've had a lot of heart and determination winning tough matches by digging their heels in.”

  • UPDATE: McWilliams takes fourth at tennis regionals

    FORT COLLINS -- Brighton's Amy McWilliams finished fourth at the class 5A Region 7 tennis tournament at Fossil Ridge and Fort Collins high schools.

    None of the BHS players qualified for the state tennis tournament, which begins at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver May 10. McWilliams, who is Brighton's No. 1 singles player, entered the two-day tournament with seven wins this season, tops on the squad.

  • BHS-Prairie View soccer game change

    HENDERSON -- The rivalry soccer game between Brighton and Prairie View high schools was moved.

    It's scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff, May 3, at Prairie View.

  • Bulldogs show polish on the big diamond

    DENVER -- Try as they might, the players from Prairie View and Brighton high schools had trouble playing their sport Saturday.
