    LAKEWOOD — It didn’t take long for first-year coach Gonzalo Godinez of Brighton High School to pinpoint what went wrong in his team’s 7-0, first-round loss to Columbine High School in the girls state soccer playoffs May 9.

  • Legend bounces Brighton, Prairie View from 5A baseball playoffs

    PARKER -- Prairie View and Brighton high schools lost to Legend High School in the district baseball tournament Saturday afternoon and saw their respective seasons come to an end.

     

    The Titans, the fifth seed in the state baseball tournament, dispatched the ThunderHawks in the tournament's first game 8-1. Legend then held off Brighton in the district championship game 2-1 for the right to go into the double-elimination portion of the playoffs that begin Friday.

    DENVER – You’ve heard the phrase, “It started on a 5,000-watt radio station,” in some faraway place?

    Try this one: Lindsay Miller, the first Prairie View High School ThunderHawk to qualify for the state tennis tournament in school history, is a volleyball player. She tried tennis on the strangest of whims all of 16 months ago.

  • UPDATE: PVHS' Miller ousted from state tennis tournament

    DENVER -- Prairie View's Lindsay Miller is out of this year's class 5A state tennis tournament.

     

    Miller, who lost to Sierra Crumbaker of Poudre 6-0, 6-2 Thursday morning in the opening round of the state 5A girls tennis tournament at the Gates Tennis Center, could have advanced to the playback round if Crumbaker won two more matches.

  • Weaver to play football at Occidental College

    BRIGHTON — This fall, Chayce Weaver will take his talents to the West Coast and join the Occidental College Tigers.
    And he didn’t need “The Decision” to announce it either.
    Weaver, standing at 5 feet 11 inches and roughly 180 pounds signed his letter of intent to play at the collegiate level at Occidental College, an NCAA Division III school in Los Angeles.

  • Weekend baseball weather? Iffy

    AURORA -- The latest weather news from the high school activities association about Saturday baseball isn't much different from yesterday. The forecast is for rain Friday night and most of Saturday. It's up to the tournament director to decide whether the games can be played as scheduled.

    If Brighton and Prairie View can't play their district tournament Saturday at Legend High School in Parker, then they would play Sunday. If they can't play Sunday, then it's Monday.

  • Prairie View gets second straight baseball playoff berth

    BRIGHTON — Prairie View hopes its recent spell of strong play carries over into this week’s state 5A playoffs.
        The ThunderHawks won nine of their 11 Eastern Metro Athletic Conference games and came within one run of knocking off conference champs Brighton High School May 1.

  • Track and field leaders

    Following is a list of current local qualifiers, as listed by MaxPreps, for the 5A state track and field championships, scheduled for May 17-19 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.

    Only the top 18 qualifiers by the deadline of May 12 will qualify for state in their respective classification and category.

    Prairie View's Jordan Holm is 13th in the long jump (21 feet 8 inches at the Pomona Invitational.
