Football business ends later for Brighton’s Helwick

Even if Brighton High School makes it through to the state 4A title football game in December, defensive lineman Ian Helwick can’t put away the football gear.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 225-pound junior defensive lineman-to-be is one of 500 players tabbed to be part of the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio, Texas. It runs for three days, starting Jan. 5.

Helwick was chosen because of performance at Football University, a national camp that he’s attended since he was in seventh grade.
