BHS captures team title at Adams County wrestling tournament

COMMERCE CITY -- Brighton High School captured the team championship at Saturday's Adams County wrestling tournament at Adams City High School.

Ricky Lane (138 pounds), Eric Yamaguchi (120) and Joel Hernandez (182) won individual titles. Hernandez won the tournament's outstanding wrestler award for the 152- to 285-pound weight classes. Yamaguchi won the top wrestler award for the 106- to 145-pound weight classes.


Tony Balderas finished second at 106 pounds. He came up one point short in the finals. Ray Baca (126), Devin Martin (195) and Ray Mijares (220) took second place at their weight classes.

Miguel Zarco (160), Cody Martin (170) and Sam Jackson (heavyweight) finished third. Matt Green (132) was fourth.

"We have a lot to work on and a long way to go but it was a good first weekend of wrestling," said BHS coach Tom Wagner.
