Lockout at BHS lifted

Brighton police lifted a lockout at Brighton High School after an investigation into a Safe2Tell incident.

Details on what happened are not clear. The lockout lasted about 30 minutes. A tweet from the school said students were kept in their classrooms until officials lifted the lockout.

Safe2Tell is an outlet for youngsters to provide assistance to those who are hurting or struggling.

BHS Principal Shelly Genereux sent a letter to school parents late in the afternoon. It mentioned nothing specific about the cause of the lockdown.

"BHS takes all reports very seriously, as the safety of our students and staff is of uptmost importance," the letter said. "It is our shared responsibility to ensure the safety of BHS, and I would encourage all of us to be active in reporting unusual, suspicious or anything out of the ordinary to BHS staff or the Brighton Police Department."

Classes resumed their normal schedule shortly before noon.

We'll have more details as they become available.
