  • Saluting graduates: Brighton Heritage Academy grad Burke finds motivation to succeed

    BRIGHTON — After a rough start in high school, Brighton Heritage Academy student Denim Burke is happy to be graduating. 

    Much of her time in high school was spent bouncing back and forth from Prairie View High School and BHA due to multiple expulsions and attempts to drop-out.

     

    After coming back to BHA for the last time, she made up her mind that she wanted to graduate. She focused on her goal and worked to keep herself motivated.

  • Kevan Carr graduates from UNL

    LINCOLN, NEB. — Kevan Hunter Carr, of Brighton, was among more than 2,900 students who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in ceremonies May 9 and 10. Carr received a bachelor of journalism from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

  • Andrew Schaneman promoted to staff sergeant

    CAMP GUERNSEY JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Wyo. — Andrew Schaneman of Brighton, was promoted to staff sergeant in the Wyoming Army National Guard May 2. Schaneman is a medic in the 213th Regional Training Institute, in Guernsey. He has been a member of the Wyoming National Guard for eight years.

     

    Besides serving in the Wyoming National Guard, he is a dental hygienist with various dentists in the Brighton area.

  • Fort Lupton Optimist Club Garage Sale May 17

    Saturday, May 17, is the date for the annual Ft. Lupton Optimist Club garage sale at R&M Services, 622 First Ave. in Ft. Lupton. The selling hours will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    In case of rain, the sale will be held on Sunday, May 18. Organizers are looking for household items in good working condition. Children’s clothing and toys are highly saleable. All donations are tax deductible and receipts are offered. Proceeds go toward the Fort Lupton Optimist Club senior scholarships. 

  • McEndree graduates Air Force basic training

     Air Force Airman 1st Class Austin M. McEndree graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

        The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

     

  • Alana Macias graduates Air Force basic training

     Air Force Airman Alana A. Macias graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

        The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

     

  • Ball, Steen to wed in August

    Ken and Antelia Ball of Brighton announce the engagement of their son, James, to Nikki Steen.  Nikki is the daughter of Delores Steen and the late Roger Steen.  

    The groom-to-be graduated from Brighton High School and served his country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.   He proudly served during Operation Enduring Freedom.  He recently graduated from Lincoln School of Technology in Denver and is currently employed at Mercedes-Benz of Loveland.

  • Jordan Walker- Cardos set to wed Zachariah Griffith in May

    Stephen and Jolyn Cardos are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jordan Len Walker-Cardos, to Zachariah Steven Griffith, son of Sean and Stacie Griffith.

     

    The future bride is a Brighton High School graduate, class of 2013. The future groom is also a Brighton High School graduate, class of 2012. He then pursued a career in the United States Air Force. He is currently an Airman stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

  • Knutson and Guthrie wed

    Dana and Patti Guthrie, of Norman, Okla., and Anthony and Holly McKinney, of Cambridge, Mass., announce the union of their daughter, Kelly Nicole Guthrie, of Washington, D.C., to Grant Michael Knutson, of Washington, D.C.

     

    Grant is the son of Roger and Geraldine Knutson, of Brighton.

    The couple were wed at 5 p.m. Nov. 2, 2013, at Dahlgren Chapel of the Sacred Heart at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., with Father Stephen Spahn officiating.

  • William Miller graduates from Navy Nuclear Power School

    Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William H. Miller has graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Officer Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C.

    Nuclear Power School is a rigorous six-month course that trains officer and enlisted students in the science and engineering fundamental to the design, operation, and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.
