  • Snowball softball Dec. 5
        Fort Lupton’s annual Winterfest Snowball Softball Tournament is set for Dec. 5 at Pearson Park Complex, state Highway 52 and U.S. Highway 85. Team awards will be presented to tournament winners.     The entry fee is $150 per team, and the deadline is Dec. 3.   • Youth softball fundraiser Nov. 14
        The Colorado Stars 12 U competitive girls softball team is hosting a live and silent auction to raise money for the 2016 season.     It starts at 6 p.m., Nov. 14, at Mulligan Joe’s, 815 Seventh St.,  Fort Lupton.  Cost is $10 per person.

  • Youth basketball tryouts Oct. 17
    Tryouts for Brighton High School’s youth feeder program are set for 9 a.m., Oct. 17, at the school. The program is open to girls in fifth through eighth grades. Tryouts are free. Email ddoehler@sd27j.org with questions.
  • Football: East spoils BHS homecoming
     Steve Smith   BRIGHTON – Brady Jacovetta and Sam Kullberg connected on Brighton’s only scoring play of the game in a 13-8 homecoming loss to Denver East Sept. 25. They were the first two players to address their teammates afterward.
  • CASA’s ‘Wonderful Wednesday’ dinners Sept. 23
    BROOMFIELD — The Court Appointed Special Advocates of Adams and Broomfield counties will host a taco bar from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 23, at the Broomfield United Methodist Church, 545 W. 10th Ave., Broomfield. The taco bar is part of the organization’s “Wonderful Wednesday” dinner series, and is available through a donation to CASA. Donations will be taken at the door.
  • Soccer refs needed; local class set for Aug. 22
     F.C. Brighton is offering a soccer refereeing class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 22, at Bromley East Charter School, 356 Longspur Drive. Visit www.coreferees.org, click on "clinics/events" in the top right corner, then click on "entry level grade 8 – 1 day." The cost is $80, and FC Brighton officials are reimbursed for their annual certification after 10 games of officiating.  
  • Olympic soccer comes to Commerce City Oct. 6-7
    COMMERCE CITY — Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City will host the finals of the group phase of the 2015 Olympic qualifying championship Oct. 6-7. The finals are in Sandy, Utah, Oct. 10 and 13.

  • Summer tennis gets under way
    Those interested in taking tennis lessons or playing Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics tennis this summer can sign up at the Brighton Recreation Center, 555 N. 11th Ave. The lessons are available mornings and evenings. The CARA program includes a full summer program of lessons and matches.
